Hello crafters! I know I probably say this a lot ... but I'm really, really excited to share today's project with you. It's the cutest little birdhouse explosion box! I thought it would make such a sweet gift for Valentine's Day. The entire time I was making it I was imagining how fun it will be to see someone's face as they lift off the roof! Spoiler alert ... it has a little surprise tucked inside!
I found this fun explosion box on Lori Whitlock's site and knew I had to make it. I
paired the cutting file with
a bunch of colorful Doodlebug petite prints and a pretty patterned
paper from the Love Notes Collection. Oh, how I love that plaid. 💗
For the roof, I used my 2 favorite colors - pistachio (buffalo check/woodgrain) and cherry (petite print dot). Aren't they great with the plaid?! The bird is a Doodle-pop from the Down on the Farm Collection and the pink heart is from the Lovebugs Collection. It's a mini Doodle-pop called Be Mine. (product links below)
The birdhouse is adorable, but ... when you lift off the roof, the four sides drop down (or explode, lol), exposing the 2 yellow pockets and ... a little red, polka dot BIRD! Oh good grief, how stinkin' cute is that bird?! It's ridiculous how much I love this, but really ... who would be expecting that? What a fun surprise!
The 2 yellow envelopes are just the right size for a few photos, notes or a thoughtful gift card. So, not only will your recipient be unbelievably impressed with your crafty birdhouse and bird making skills, but they'll get a bonus gift inside. Tuck a couple meaningful photos of the two of you, the littles or the grandlittles in the pockets. Maybe write a poem, or add a thoughtful coupon to cook dinner for them on Friday night. You could add a gift card to a favorite coffee shop or, if it's for a teen ... cash!
If you'd like to surprise someone this Valentine's Day (or birthday, or any occasion!) you can find the product links below and recreate this fun birdhouse for yourself.
Adorable explosion box!
