Happy Saturday! I'm hoppin' on the blog today to share a fun project that I made with a $3 heart shaped box I found at Target. I decorated it and added a sweet little acrylic album inside, making this a perfect keepsake for Valentine's Day photos, memorabilia, or ... pictures of the people you love most. 💕
I used the whimsical Simple Stories Heartstrings Collection that has flowers, hearts, gingham, and polka dots. I love the fruity color scheme of orange, red, pink, and green with a touch of aqua blue (links below).
This is the original box I found in Target's Dollar Spot. It's made of chipboard paper and measures 4.5" (H) x 5.6" (W) x 2.5" (D). With its little red handle and gold latch, I knew I could do something fun with it!
I started by covering the top of the box in the pretty 6x8 floral print. To get the size and shape correct, I traced around the box onto the paper, cut it out, and adhered it to the lid.
Then, I glued some Doodlebug chunky twine in tangerine around the top's edge and embellished with foam stickers from the Simple Stories, Heart Eyes Collection.
Next, I cut the red polka dot print into thin strips and glued that around the sides of the lid, notching out a semicircle for the gold latch.
For the sides of the box, I added the orange gingham print but stopped halfway around so I wouldn't have to cut the paper around the handle. I added a red scalloped border sticker from Doodlebug's Farmer's Market, then a few pretty flower die cuts above that.
Inside, I cut out another heart shape to cover the base of the box. Then, it was time for the mini album!
I made this cute little scrapbook out of clear acrylic but, you could use cardstock or chipboard instead. I added the orange gingham print on top, then cardstock stickers from the 12x12 sheet.
For the photo mats, I used two different sized scallop punches from Marvy Uchida. The red one above is a 3" scallop. The circle punch inside, which would be your photo is 2.5".
Since I added two photo mats on this page, I made them a little smaller and used a 2.5" scallop punch and 2.25" circle punch. Then, I embellished with some heart stickers.

I decorated this with a Valentine's Day collection, you could use any paper collection. It would be cute with an Easter
theme or for Mother's Day filled with flowers.
And ... check this out! The heart shaped box can also be displayed on my clear Acrylic Display Stand. It positions the top of the box facing out so you can see it from a shelf or bookcase (vs facing straight up). My stands are great for showing off different types of projects like mini albums, greeting cards, and even decorative photo boxes!
Thanks for stopping by the blog today. Below, are the links for all the products used in this heart shaped box and mini album. I hope everyone has a wonderful and crafty weekend!
