I love my punches but I often don't want to mess up an entire sheet of 12x12 paper to punch out one little butterfly or banner. Yes, I do save and use my scraps....but I have also started saving the packaging that comes with my paper packs. The colors match exactly, and the images are usually just smaller versions of the actual 12x12 sheets.
Here's an example of how I used the packaging sheet from my Bo Bunny Surprise pack:
I used two different punches in various areas of the paper so that I could get different patterns that matched my layout. I used some for the banners, and I used others to "fill-in" the rectangles on my film strip. Fun, easy, and it saved me from punching up all of my 12x12 sheets! Here is my finished layout:
I used three punches on this page:
EK "film strip", Stampin Up "Pennants", and Fiskars "in stitches".
I was going to add a banner to the bottom of my page using these cute triangle punches, but when I started playing with the design, I wanted a round element at the bottom of the page. I like the way this turned out...kind-of reminds me of birthday cake slices! ... and oh my goodness, how cute are Rian's dimples? :)

This layout is gorgeous!!! Handsome boy he is too! Love your tip!!! I am going to start saving my packaging now! Thanks so much Traci and by the way, this week started the new Funday Friday challenges over on my blog. I hope you can join in on this week's awesome sketch challenge!

Okay.... you are brilliant!! I love the way you took the paper we normally throw away and use it for a fun embellishment! And I also loved that you took a banner punch and made an embellishment that was not a banner!!! Thanks for all of these ideas for our punches!
